About

Trek Coalition was founded to expand access to healthcare for rural communities in Ecuador and around the world. Over the years, our mission has broadened to not only provide healthcare access, but to invest in both equipment and technology within communities. Delivering health care locally provides us insight, infrastructure investment supports in-country operations, and healthcare technology works to close the health gap in developing countries. Our mission is to provide mobile medical clinics for healthcare access, bolster current Ecuadorian clinics with equipment donations, and invest in innovative technologies that make for a more equal world.

 Mobile Medicine

Delivering mobile medicine to unreached communities has been a cornerstone in TREK’s operations. By assembling teams of professionals and volunteers, TREK travels to in-country locations to help those who need it most. Not only has it led to the care of over 2,500 patients and more than 30 surgeries to those who would otherwise not receive it, but it has allowed TREK to learn about communities and barriers to health firsthand. By visiting these sites and working in-country with organizations, TREK gains insight on how to help further. Read below to see what TREK is doing to help innovate on the ground.

 Infrastructure Support

Through device donations and program development, TREK aims to bolster the work our in-country partners are dedicated to. Donations range from pharmaceuticals for clinical care to operating room equipment like a laparoscopic tower necessary for surgery. Additionally TREK has played an integral part in program development including cervical cancer screening, depression screening, and cataract screening programs. Building capacity at the program level is critical to ensuring continuity of care throughout the patient’s medical journey.

 Impact Investing

TREKForward

As of May of 2020, Trek Coalition began the process of selecting an entrepreneur to be the recipient of a grant to progress the mission of bringing technology to low-resourced communities. This grant is intended to ‘seed’ an early-stage entrepreneur to cultivate the ecosystem through which we wish to evolve healthcare. As we invest in the future of rural communities, the entrepreneur will be brought into the TREK family to compound our impact-first mission.

Impact investing is a new and foundational component of TREK Coalition’s strategy moving forward. Facilitating resources on the ground is important for high quality care now, but we must invest in technologies that democratize healthcare in rural areas moving forward. TREKForward is our investment and ongoing commitment to Ecuadorian & Andean communities.
